A Knight in Venice

Every year, Sandwich High School strives to make their prom better than the previous. This year is no different. Thanks to the junior prom committee, this is hopefully the best SHS prom yet!

This year, prom’s theme is A Knight in Venice, where the Hyannis Convention Center will be decorated to feel like the real life City of Love. Junior SHS student John MacLeod, a prom committee member, says the color scheme will include purple, black, and gold. "The table centerpieces will have glass vases with candles and masks scattered amongst the tables," he stated.

After talking to The Class of 2016’s class advisors, Ms. Austin and Ms. Arrimour, we got an inside look into what to expect throughout the night of May 23rd. "Tickets will be $75 each," says Ms. Arrimour. This year’s food will be a buffet style of chicken entrees with sides of salad, pasta and vegetables. "Juniors plan to put on a fun, enjoyable night for all juniors, seniors, and guests." Says Ms. Austin.

This year the ballots for prom court will be counted differently. Last year, text messages were counted as votes. This year, to save time and avoid technical difficulties, students will fill out ballots to determine the winners of junior prom king and queen.

Sandwich High has a reputation of 'couch pictures' at prom. Students gather in a room and pose for three pictures at a time on and around an old couch. It has always been a tradition the students look forward to: "Our expectations are not crazy drastic from last year. We will have the typical couch pictures and photobooths with fun props and masks like before," MacLeod says.

To start off the evening, the Prom March will take place the day of the prom at Heritage Gardens at 4:00 PM where prom goers will have photo opportunities. The prom celebration will begin at 7:00 PM and the night will conclude at 11:00 PM. After Prom starts at midnight. Everyone attending this year’s prom are in for an unforgettable night of fun and festivities. You wouldn’t want to miss it!
