Coach Kelsey Beaton has created a top notch girl’s lacrosse program over her tenure at Sandwich High School. She looks to continue that success this year as she leads a 4-3 Atlantic Coast League powerhouse into the heart of a season that is likely for a deep playoff run.

Fellow SHS sophomore Jackie Purmort-LaBue said on Coach Kelsey Beaton that “She is our head coach, and she is a tough and passionate leader who expects 100 percent of our hard work and attention. She has a smart lacrosse mind who knows her X’s and O’s and knows how to get the best out of her players."

Caroline McKenna, a three-sport Varsity athlete at Sandwich High School, commands as one of the captains of this year’s SHS Girl’s Lacrosse team. She has played soccer, lacrosse, and basketball for four years as a Sandwich High School Blue Knight. She has also finished in the top 20 in her Academic Class of 2015 and was named an Atlantic Coast All Star.

With her good accolades, McKenna has become an MVP of sorts, with full dedication towards her sport.

“Senior captains, Caroline McKenna, and Lily Barter, lead us by example and always motivate us to win the ground ball or execute Coach’s game plan,” says SHS sophomore and teammate of McKenna Mari Curry.

“The season is going well, but we have dropped a few tough ones”, Curry continued.

Curry continued to state that “Our greatest strength is our offense and our ability to score the ball on that end of the field. Larochelle and Caroline McKenna provide most of the offense."

She went on to add “Senior captains Caroline McKenna and Lily Barter lead us by example and always motivate us to win the ground ball or execute Coach’s game plan.”

“I am a really competitive person, and whenever we are facing a team that might be bigger than us or players that are more talented, I try to tell everyone just to do their job,” McKenna says.

McKenna is thankful for all of the people who have helped her to reach this point in her lacrosse game: “I’d like to thank Coach Beaton for building a program that teaches the game the right way and that instilled a winning attitude. It's nice to have gone to the playoffs three years in a row, and it's nice to win games, but I will cherish the friendships and memories that I’ve made much more than any victory."

Since the season started in March, the team has had a great season so far with an above average W/L Ratio. This Sunday, May 10th, a game will be held at the LAX Field behind the school versus Scituate at 8:00 A.M. The team welcomes spectators.
